Officer-involved shooting in Gulfport

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) is investigating an officer-involved shooting involving the Gulfport Police Department that occurred on May 4.

Officers with the Gulfport Police Department were responding to a call near Reed Avenue in Gulfport regarding a stabbing. Upon arrival, an altercation occurred between an officer and the subject on scene. During the altercation, the officer discharged his weapon striking the subject. The subject was transported to a local hospital. The officer received no serious physical injuries.

MBI is currently assessing this critical incident and gathering evidence. Upon completing the investigation, agents will share their findings with the Attorney General’s Office.
