McRae: The 2024 College Savings Art Contest is here!
By: Treasurer David McRae
College Savings Mississippi is back with our annual art contest, and this year’s prize money is bigger than ever!
For those who aren’t familiar, the State Treasury hosts an art contest each year, asking Pre-K through 12th Grade students to draw a picture of what they’d like to be when they grow up. Every year, I’m blown away by the dreams these kids have. From chemists to service members, from teachers to astronauts, there are some amazing things living within our kids’ ambitions!
This year, we’ll be giving out $7,000 worth of Mississippi Affordable College Savings (MACS) scholarships to the winners, including a $1,000 prize to the First-Place finishers in grades Pre-K-2, 3-5, 6-8, and 9-12. On top of that, we’ll be giving the teacher with the greatest number of entries a $500 MACS scholarship, which can be used for their classroom and more!
These scholarships, like all MACS accounts, can be used for almost any educational expense you can dream of, including laptops, college tuition, room and board, books, and more.
Additionally, MACS funds can accrue interest over time, meaning that by the time you’re ready to use them, the funds could have swelled significantly!
If you’re interested in participating in this year’s contest, please visit treasury.ms.gov/artcontest for the full contest rules. Submissions are due by Feb. 29, so you won’t want to delay!
