Unknown suspect vandalizes Hinds County courthouses, downtown
An unknown male left suspicious notes on the doors of both Hinds County courthouses and vandalized the doors with spray paint, as well as other downtown locations, the Hinds County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post.
The sheriff’s office said federal partners have been notified and the U.S. Capitol Police is assisting with the investigation. The office asked anyone with information about the identity of the individual to contact police.
The Hinds County Sheriff’s Office is the primary law enforcement agency for Hinds County and is responsible for courtroom security and protecting county facilities. Damage or threats to courthouses can interrupt court operations and raise public safety concerns, officials said in the post.
Investigators often work with federal agencies when potential threats involve government buildings or cross jurisdictional lines. Authorities did not provide additional details about the suspect, motive or extent of the damage in the post. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
