Tupelo police arrest man months after felony fleeing crash

TUPELO, Mississippi — Tupelo police arrested a man April 2 in connection with a felony fleeing case that began with a traffic stop attempt on Nov. 7, 2025, the Tupelo Police Department said.

Officers tried to stop a black Toyota Camry near Ida B. Wells Street and Enoch Avenue for an equipment violation, police said. The department said the vehicle then began driving erratically, ran stop signs and continued to flee from officers.

The chase ended when the vehicle struck another vehicle and the people inside ran away on foot, police said. Investigators later identified the driver as 25-year-old Earnest Long Jr. of Tupelo.

Long was charged with felony fleeing, the department said. At an April 3 hearing in Tupelo Municipal Court, Judge Willie Allen ordered Long held on a $15,000 bond. Tupelo is in northeastern Mississippi.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
