Tunica County sheriff seeks help after dog shot, killed

TUNICA COUNTY, Mississippi — The Tunica County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public for help after a dog was shot and killed at his home on Walnut Lake Road, the department said.

The sheriff’s office said the incident occurred Tuesday, March 24 at approximately 5:30 p.m. The dog was named Major and his owner is identified as Michael, the department said. A witness said they saw a white pickup truck in the area at the time of the shooting.

The Tunica County Sheriff’s Office is the primary law enforcement agency for Tunica County, which is in northwestern Mississippi. The department said it has opened an investigation and is seeking any information that could help identify the person or vehicle involved.

Pet shootings can prompt community concern and may result in criminal charges where laws against animal cruelty and unlawful discharge of a firearm apply. The sheriff’s office asked anyone with information to contact investigators.
