Tree falls on Natchez home, traps occupants

NATCHEZ, Mississippi — A large tree fell onto a home late Saturday, causing major damage and temporarily trapping the people inside, the Adams County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies said the incident occurred about 11:30 p.m. March 15 in the 70 block of Mullins Road after a 911 caller reported that a tree had collapsed onto the residence. The caller told dispatchers that the damage was significant and that the occupants could not safely exit the home.

When deputies arrived, they found a large tree across the structure that blocked access and caused structural damage, officials said. The Natchez Fire Department and American Medical Response responded to assist. Emergency crews worked to secure the scene, help the occupants and assess damage to the home.

Officials reported no serious injuries and reminded residents to use caution after severe weather, noting that fallen trees and debris can create dangerous conditions. Natchez is the seat of Adams County on the Mississippi River. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
