Suspect wanted in Hinds County carjacking arrested after Yazoo pursuit

YAZOO CITY, Mississippi — A man wanted on carjacking charges out of Hinds County is in custody after a pursuit that began near Yazoo City, the Yazoo County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday.

Investigators identified the suspect as Kalveonte Moore. Investigator Antwan Jones saw the vehicle traveling north on Highway 49 as it entered the Yazoo City limits, the sheriff’s office said. Deputies made contact with the vehicle, but the driver refused to stop, prompting officers to pursue.

The sheriff’s office said Moore was wanted in Hinds County on carjacking charges and that the car he was driving was confirmed stolen and has been recovered. The pursuit ended without injuries, and officials credited the coordinated efforts of multiple law enforcement agencies for bringing the incident to a safe conclusion.

Moore is being held at the Yazoo County Regional Correctional Facility. Carjacking is typically prosecuted as a serious felony, and stolen-vehicle cases can carry additional charges; local officials did not provide further details on charges or court dates.
