Starkville regulates private property parking

Starkville officials said private property parking is regulated under the city’s trespass towing ordinance, which allows a private property owner to request a vehicle be towed when it is parked without permission and sets rules for how those tows must be handled.

The city said the ordinance aims to clarify property owners’ rights and towing procedures and to reduce disputes between property owners, drivers and towing companies. Drivers can avoid problems by parking only where permission is clearly allowed and by paying attention to posted signs indicating private parking restrictions.

The post is part of an ongoing effort by city officials to explain how the trespass towing ordinance applies to residents and visitors. The municipal code is available online for review at the city’s ordinance page. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
