Standards and Training director presents deputy’s original certificate to sheriff
Standards and Training Director Amy Vanderford presented Sheriff Johnson with Deputy Haggard’s original professional certificate today, according to a Facebook post. Sheriff Johnson, who serves as chairman of the board, received the document during a board meeting.
The board observed a moment of silence at the meeting in Deputy Haggard’s memory, the post said. The presentation and observance were noted without additional detail in the social media update.
Professional certificates in law enforcement generally document completion of required training and qualifications, and divisions responsible for standards and training oversee those credentials and continuing education for officers. Boards that govern or advise sheriffs’ offices often meet to handle administrative matters and to honor officers who have died in the line of duty or otherwise.
The brief post did not provide further information about Deputy Haggard or the circumstances surrounding the memorial. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
