Southaven opens warming center Friday for those needing shelter

The Southaven Community Safe Room will open Friday, Jan. 23, 2026, at noon as a warming center to provide a place for people needing shelter during upcoming extreme weather conditions, a Facebook post said.

The post directs anyone who needs a warm place to stay to the Community Safe Room at 7312 Highway 51 N. in Southaven, Mississippi. Officials did not provide additional details about hours, capacity or services in the post.

Warming centers offer temporary shelter and heat for people at risk during severe cold or other extreme weather. Municipalities and community organizations commonly open such centers when forecasts indicate conditions that could threaten the health and safety of residents without adequate heating or shelter.

Southaven is a suburban city in DeSoto County near Memphis that has used community facilities in the past for emergency sheltering. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
