Silver Alert issued for missing 35-year-old man in Jackson
JACKSON — Local authorities issued a Silver Alert for 35-year-old Larry Layton after he was reported missing from St. David’s Personal Care Home in the 3000 block of Capitol Street, officials said. Layton was last seen walking away from the facility, officials said. He is described as 6 feet 1 inch tall and weighing about 230 pounds. His clothing at the time of his disappearance is unknown, and officials said he has been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia.
Silver Alerts are public notification systems used in many states to help locate missing adults who may be vulnerable because of age, cognitive impairment or medical conditions. Authorities use them to quickly share identifying information with the public through media and electronic highway signs.
Paranoid schizophrenia is a serious mental illness that can affect perception, thinking and behavior, which can increase vulnerability when a person leaves a supervised setting, mental health experts say. Personal care homes provide varying levels of supervision and assistance to residents who need help with daily activities and health needs.
Anyone with information about Layton’s whereabouts is urged to contact local law enforcement immediately. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
