Sheriff Johnson coordinates patrols, issues 78 citations near Shannon Primary

Sheriff Jim H. Johnson said he coordinated with the Mississippi Highway Patrol last week to focus enforcement on Highway 45 near Shannon Primary School, resulting in 78 citations and two DUI arrests.

Johnson said in a Facebook post that he requested saturation patrols in the area to increase awareness and cite violators after noting recent dangers in school zones. He said all citations were written in the school zone during active school hours.

School-zone enforcement typically uses concentrated patrols to increase officer visibility and compliance with reduced speed limits and other traffic laws designed to protect students and staff. Johnson said the goal is simple: “protect our children and make our school zones safer.” He urged drivers to slow down, stay alert and follow the law when passing school zones.

The sheriff’s office did not provide additional details in the post. This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
