Severe storms threaten Mississippi Sunday night into Monday
A social media post warned that the entire state of Mississippi is at risk for severe weather beginning Sunday evening, March 15, and lasting into the early morning hours of Monday, March 16.
The post said the state could experience severe storms with damaging winds up to 70 mph, quarter-size hail and the possibility of tornadoes. Residents across urban and rural areas should prepare for rapidly changing conditions and localized impacts.
Mississippi commonly faces its most significant severe weather threats in the spring, when strong storms, wind and tornadoes become more frequent. Weather agencies and emergency managers typically issue watches, warnings and safety guidance during these events to help communities reduce risk.
The post urged people to stay weather-aware, have multiple ways to receive alerts and know their safe place. Officials generally advise preparing an emergency kit, securing outdoor items and identifying an interior room without windows for shelter during tornado threats. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
