Rescue seeks foster, donations after dog found in Jackson Walgreens break-in
JACKSON — A dog is receiving veterinary care after Capitol Police found it trapped inside a Jackson Walgreens when officers arrested a man accused of breaking into the store, rescue group Cheshire Abbey said.
Cheshire Abbey said volunteers were contacted after officers discovered the animal during the arrest. The group said the dog had not been properly cared for and is now undergoing treatment by a veterinarian.
The rescue said it plans to treat the dog’s skin condition and provide full veterinary care, including spaying. Cheshire Abbey said it currently has no available space and is seeking a foster home; the person who fosters the dog will be able to name her, the group said.
Cheshire Abbey is also asking for help covering veterinary and boarding expenses. The organization said donations may be made via Venmo, PayPal or directly through its account at Florence Animal Clinic.
The group thanked Capitol Police for helping remove the dog from what it described as a situation of suffering. Animal rescues often rely on foster networks and donations to provide medical care and temporary housing for animals in need. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
