Rankin County warns residents to stay weather aware ahead of weekend storms
Rankin County officials urged residents Friday to remain vigilant after the U.S. National Weather Service in Jackson forecast severe weather that will impact the area this weekend. The Rankin County Sheriff’s Office posted the advisory on its official Facebook page, saying, “Residents need to remain Weather Aware in the weekend ahead.”
The Rankin County Sheriff’s Office is the primary law enforcement agency serving Rankin County, Mississippi, and often relays public-safety notices for local residents. The National Weather Service issues forecasts, watches and warnings to help communities prepare for hazardous conditions.
Severe weather in Mississippi can pose multiple hazards, including heavy rainfall, flooding, hail, damaging winds and tornadoes. Such events can disrupt travel, damage property and create dangerous conditions for residents and first responders.
Authorities recommend that residents monitor local news and official NWS communications, secure outdoor items, charge mobile devices, prepare an emergency kit and identify a safe place to shelter if conditions deteriorate. The Sheriff’s Office did not provide additional details about timing or specific threats. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
