Rankin County sheriff honors Martin Luther King Jr.
Rankin County Sheriff Bryan Bailey and staff at the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office said in a post on the department’s Facebook page that they honor and remember the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
The office said King dedicated his life to improving the nation and the world and that the effects of his work continue to resound throughout history.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was a leader of the U.S. civil rights movement in the 1950s and 1960s who advocated nonviolent protest. He helped organize the 1963 March on Washington, where he delivered his “I Have a Dream” speech, received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964 and was assassinated in 1968.
The Rankin County Sheriff’s Office is the primary law enforcement agency for Rankin County, Mississippi, and its remembrance echoes observances by government and civic organizations across the country on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The post underscores how public institutions mark the holiday to reflect on civil rights, equality and public service. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
