Rankin County deputies arrest suspect in fish house burglary
Rankin County deputies arrested a suspect after a commercial burglary at a fish house on Dixie Road in the Florence area, the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office said. The office received a report Feb. 24 that employees discovered cash missing from the register when they opened the business for the day.
Security camera footage showed a male suspect in a black hoodie walking near the rear of the restaurant the previous night, the sheriff’s office said. The footage reportedly shows the suspect opening an electrical box and turning off a breaker, cutting power to the restaurant. Additional surveillance cameras in the area also captured the individual, the post said.
Deputies identified and arrested the suspect in less than 24 hours, the sheriff’s office said. The suspect was identified as Scott Dennis Roberts and was booked into the Rankin County Jail on a burglary charge. The Rankin County District Attorney’s Office will bring Roberts before County Court Judge David Morrow for an initial appearance, the office said.
Sheriff Bryan Bailey thanked the deputies who worked on the case, the sheriff’s office said, and added that the office will continue efforts to keep Rankin County safe. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
