Pontotoc man arrested on meth charge after Lee County traffic stop

LEE COUNTY, Mississippi — Deputies with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Pontotoc man on a methamphetamine charge after a traffic stop in the Shannon area on March 12, Sheriff Jim H. Johnson said.

Authorities identified the suspect as Christopher L. Tedford, 48, of Pontotoc. During the encounter, deputies found the driver to be in possession of methamphetamine, and Tedford was charged with possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, methamphetamine. A Lee County Justice Court judge set his bond at $25,000.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office enforces local and highway safety and periodically conducts traffic stops that can lead to arrests when officers find illegal drugs or other contraband. Methamphetamine is classified federally as a Schedule II controlled substance, a category that includes drugs that have accepted medical uses but also a high potential for abuse.

Cases that begin with traffic-stop arrests typically proceed through the county court system for initial hearings and potential prosecution. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
