Police pursuit ends in crash at Columbia, North streets in Hattiesburg

HATTIESBURG, Mississippi — A police pursuit Monday evening ended in a crash involving two vehicles at the intersection of Columbia Street and North Street, Hattiesburg police said.

Officers attempted a traffic stop shortly after 5 p.m. Monday, March 2, after spotting a gray Nissan being driven erratically, the Hattiesburg Police Department said. The Nissan fled, prompting a brief pursuit that ended when it ran a stop sign and collided with a black Toyota at the intersection.

Police said both the driver and a passenger in the Nissan were apprehended at the scene. The female driver of the Toyota and her juvenile daughter were transported to a local hospital, and the driver and passenger of the Nissan were also taken to a hospital. Authorities said all injuries reported were non-life-threatening.

Charges for the occupants of the gray Nissan are pending as the department continues its investigation, Hattiesburg police said. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
