Police chief nominee addresses Jackson police command staff

The Jackson Police Department said in a Facebook post that Police Chief Nominee Dr. Brackney stopped by a recent command staff meeting for a brief introduction and had an opportunity to address the department’s senior officers.

Command staff meetings typically bring together a department’s senior leadership to review operations, policy and administration. These gatherings serve as a forum for coordination on patrol strategy, investigations, training and resource allocation.

An appearance by a chief nominee gives department leaders and staff an early opportunity to hear from the person expected to lead the agency, to begin building working relationships and to discuss broad priorities. As a nominee, Dr. Brackney would lead the department if selected through the municipality’s hiring or confirmation process.

The Jackson Police Department is the municipal agency responsible for local law enforcement in its jurisdiction. The Facebook post provided limited detail about the meeting and the nominee’s remarks. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
