Pike County chief deputy reads to McComb students for Read Across America

Chief Deputy Damian Gatlin of the Pike County Sheriff’s Office recently read to students at Wee Care Academy Day Care Center in McComb as part of Read Across America, the sheriff’s office said.

Read Across America is a nationwide literacy initiative inspired by the legacy of Dr. Seuss that encourages community leaders, parents and volunteers to read to children and promote the joy of books.

Chief Deputy Gatlin joined students as a guest reader, helping make the day special and memorable. “This was so much fun interacting with the children and we are very grateful for the invite,” Gatlin said, according to the sheriff’s office.

The Pike County Sheriff’s Office said events such as the reading strengthen the bond between law enforcement and the community by showing students positive role models and reinforcing the importance of reading and education. The information was provided by the Pike County Sheriff’s Office Public Relations Department.
