Picayune man faces drug charges after traffic stop

A Picayune man was arrested on drug charges after a traffic stop Tuesday evening in Pearl River County, the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department said. Deputies stopped a Chrysler 200 for an expired tag around 7:15 p.m. on Jackson Landing Road near Lilac Drive, authorities said.

Deputies identified the driver as 50-year-old Steven Thom of Picayune. Investigators said they found methamphetamine and Adderall during a search of the vehicle.

Thom was taken to the Pearl River County Correctional Facility and booked on charges of felony possession with intent to distribute and possession of a controlled substance, investigators said.

Sheriff David Allison said he wants the public to know deputies are continuing efforts to keep drugs off the streets. Picayune is the county seat of Pearl River County in Mississippi. Routine traffic enforcement can lead to the discovery of illegal drugs, and officials say such stops remain an important tool for public safety. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
