Pearl woman arrested in Oxford on felony malicious mischief charge

OXFORD — A Pearl woman was arrested Thursday after a reported disturbance and property damage incident in Oxford, police said.

Officers with the Oxford Police Department responded April 9 to the 1600 block of Oxford Place, where a disturbance and damage to property were reported, the department said. Following an investigation at the scene, officers identified the suspect as Baylie Gallagher, 20, of Pearl, and took her into custody, police said.

Gallagher was charged with felony malicious mischief and was taken before a Municipal Court judge for an initial bond hearing, according to police. Felony malicious mischief generally refers to significant damage to property and is treated more seriously than a misdemeanor; felony charges can lead to higher fines and potential jail time.

The Oxford Police Department, which handles law enforcement calls and investigations in the city, did not provide additional details about the alleged incident. The arrest underscores ongoing public-safety and property-protection concerns that can arise from disturbances. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
