Oxford police urge wearing blue for Child Abuse Prevention Month
Oxford Police Department is encouraging residents to wear blue each Monday in April to observe Child Abuse Prevention Month, the department said in a Facebook post.
The department said the weekly observance, promoted as “Blue Monday,” asks people to wear blue and share photos on social media using the hashtags #BlueMondays and #OxfordPD. The post did not provide additional details about local events or programs.
Child Abuse Prevention Month is observed in April to raise public awareness about child abuse and to promote prevention efforts. Communities and organizations commonly use symbolic actions, such as wearing a specific color, to show support for survivors, highlight available resources and encourage prevention activities.
Officials and child welfare advocates say community awareness can help identify at-risk children and connect families with services. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
