Oxford police urge ride-share use during Ole Miss SEC home weekend

Oxford Police Department on Friday urged fans to use ride-share services as the University of Mississippi hosts its first Southeastern Conference home weekend. The department posted the reminder to its Facebook page, saying it hopes everyone has a fun and safe weekend and offering guidance for anyone who feels unsafe.

The post noted a Safe Site tent across the street from Funky’s where officers and volunteers will be available to assist fans, the department said. Oxford Police Department is the primary law enforcement agency for Oxford, Mississippi, and routinely issues safety guidance during large local events and college sporting weekends.

Ole Miss baseball, a member of the Southeastern Conference, often draws sizable crowds for conference games, increasing demand for transportation and public-safety resources. Ride-share reminders aim to reduce impaired driving and help ensure spectators get to and from games safely, public-safety officials say.

The department encouraged anyone with questions or concerns to seek assistance at the Safe Site tent or from officers on patrol. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
