Oxford police teach women’s self-defense to city employees, families

The Oxford Police Department said its officers taught a women’s self-defense class for City of Oxford employees and their families, the department posted on Facebook.

The department said it appreciated everyone who attended and took part in learning the skills. The training is part of community policing efforts that many local departments use to build trust and provide practical safety instruction to residents and city workers.

Oxford Police Department (OPD) said the next class open to the public will be held April 21 at 6 p.m. at the Oxford Police Department. Public self-defense classes aim to give participants basic techniques, situational awareness and confidence to help reduce personal risk.

Community training sessions can enhance workplace safety and strengthen ties between law enforcement and the public. Oxford officials did not release additional details about the recent class. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
