Oxford PD speaks to Alpha Phi at Ole Miss on domestic violence signs
The Oxford Police Department said in a Facebook post that Victim’s Services Coordinator Valerie Boothe recently spoke to Alpha Phi at the University of Mississippi about recognizing the signs of dating and domestic violence.
The department said the presentation provided an opportunity to connect with students and discuss relationship safety and interpersonal violence. Alpha Phi is a national sorority with a chapter at Ole Miss; outreach to student organizations is a common way law enforcement and campus groups address safety and prevention on college campuses.
Victim services coordinators typically work to connect survivors with resources and support, including counseling, advocacy and information about reporting options, the department said. The Oxford Police Department encouraged other student groups and campus organizations to consider similar programs to raise awareness and help prevent interpersonal violence.
Organizations interested in arranging a speaker from the Victim’s Services Team were asked to contact Boothe at vboothe@oxfordpolice.net, the post said. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
