OPD administrative offices close for Martin Luther King Jr. Day

OPD administrative offices will be closed on Monday, Jan. 19, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the department said in a Facebook post. The department said it honors Dr. King’s legacy of service, equality and justice during the observance.

The post reminded residents that emergency services remain available and instructed people to call 911 if they need immediate assistance. The notice did not provide further details about which administrative functions would be affected.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a federal holiday observed on the third Monday in January to commemorate the life and work of the civil rights leader. Many government offices, courts and schools close or operate on reduced schedules for the holiday, and communities often hold commemorative events and volunteer activities.

The department’s announcement underscores the distinction between administrative operations and emergency response, and suggests residents should plan for limited nonemergency services on the holiday. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
