Officials distribute MREs, water at Lafayette County and Oxford sites

Officials begin distributing MREs and bottled water at 12:00 p.m. and will continue until supplies run out, a Facebook post said. Organizers said they will provide up to three days’ worth of supplies per person to help ensure resources reach as many residents as possible.

Distribution sites in Lafayette County include Harmontown SO Substation, 12 CR 517; Lafayette High School, 160 Commodore Drive; Lafayette County Fire Station 3, 22 CR 369; Oasis Church, 861 Highway 6 West; Taylor Community Center, 78 First Street; Lafayette County Fire Station 14, 41 CR 430; and Lafayette County Fire Station 12, 1301 Highway 30 East.

In the city of Oxford, distribution will take place at CB Webb, Wayne Johnson and Thacker at Garden Terrace, the post said. The Mississippi National Guard is staffing the sites, and officials asked residents to be patient and kind as volunteers work to serve the community.

MREs, or Meals Ready-to-Eat, are self-contained field rations commonly used in emergency response. The National Guard often assists local authorities with logistics and distribution during relief operations. Supplies are limited; officials said distribution will continue until inventories are exhausted. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
