NWS Jackson issues marginal severe-storm risk for Saturday
The National Weather Service office in Jackson on Friday issued a marginal risk for severe storms for parts of the state for Saturday afternoon into early Sunday, the office said. The agency said the main threats are damaging winds and quarter-sized hail.
A marginal risk denotes that isolated severe storms are possible. It is the lowest category on the severe-storm risk scale used by forecasters to indicate the potential for storms that could produce damaging winds, hail or brief tornadoes.
The National Weather Service maintains local forecast offices that monitor conditions and issue watches and warnings as threats evolve. The Jackson office advised residents to continue following local meteorologists and stay alert for any updates to watches or warnings.
Damaging winds and hail can produce downed trees, property damage and localized power outages, and can make travel hazardous. People with outdoor plans should have a plan to move to safe shelter quickly if conditions deteriorate.
We will provide more information as it becomes available.
