NWS cancels Ice Storm Warning; Winter Storm Warning remains

The National Weather Service in Jackson canceled the Ice Storm Warning at 12:30 p.m. CST Sunday, Jan. 25, 2026, but said a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until further notice.

The NWS warned that precipitation still on some roads could lead to black ice overnight and urged residents to drive only if absolutely necessary. Officials advised motorists to check local road conditions before traveling and to exercise extreme caution if travel is unavoidable.

Local authorities also urged residents to report downed trees, power lines or other hazards to the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department or by dialing 911. Emergency responders frequently coordinate with weather offices and utility crews during winter events to clear roads and restore power.
