National Guard distributes MREs, water at Lafayette County and Oxford sites
A Facebook post announcing relief distributions said the Mississippi National Guard will hand out meals and bottled water beginning at 12:00 p.m. and continuing until supplies run out. Officials said each person may receive up to three days’ worth of supplies to help ensure as many residents as possible can be served.
Distribution sites in Lafayette County include Harmontown SO Substation at 12 County Road 517; Lafayette High School, 160 Commodore Drive; Lafayette County Fire Station 3, 22 County Road 369; Oasis Church, 861 Highway 6 West; Taylor Community Center, 78 First Street; Lafayette County Fire Station 14, 41 County Road 430; and Lafayette County Fire Station 12, 1301 Highway 30 East.
In the city of Oxford, the post listed CB Webb Wayne Johnson Thacker at Garden Terrace as a distribution site. The post asked residents to be patient and kind, noting volunteers and service members are staffing the locations.
MREs, or meals ready-to-eat, are self-contained field rations commonly used in emergency response. The Mississippi National Guard frequently supports local disaster response by providing logistics, security and distribution of relief supplies.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
