Natchez woman arrested in Adams County credit card fraud probe

NATCHEZ — A 29-year-old Natchez woman was arrested Feb. 25 after a traffic stop led authorities to link her to a credit card fraud investigation, the Adams County Sheriff’s Office said.

A deputy conducted a traffic stop at approximately 9:24 a.m. on West Stiers Lane, and during the stop determined the driver, Mahalia Bruce, had an outstanding warrant issued by the Adams County Justice Court, the sheriff’s office said. The warrant stems from an incident reported Feb. 24 in which Bruce is accused of unlawfully using a credit card number without the cardholder’s consent to make purchases at Walmart and Sonic in Adams County.

Authorities charged Bruce with fraud involving a credit card and booked her on an additional charge of embezzlement involving agents, trustees, clerks or other persons in a position of trust, the sheriff’s office said. She was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Adams County Jail.

Bruce is being held pending an initial appearance before a judge, and the sheriff’s office noted that all individuals are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. Credit card fraud typically involves the unauthorized use of a card or card number to make purchases and is investigated by local law enforcement. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
