Narcotics keep suspect awake before Gulfport cutting, police say

GULFPORT, Mississippi — A Gulfport man has been arrested and charged after two people were injured in a reported cutting Monday night on Palmer Drive, the Gulfport Police Department said.

Police identified the suspect as 35-year-old Shaun Andrew Lawler of Gulfport. Officers responded about 9:40 p.m. to a report of a cutting in the 2800 block of Palmer Drive and found two victims suffering from multiple lacerations, police said. Both victims were transported to a local hospital and were listed in stable condition.

Lawler was arrested March 2 and charged with one count of aggravated domestic assault and one count of aggravated assault, police said. The investigation indicated the incident stemmed from Lawler reportedly being awake for several days because of narcotics use, authorities said. Police did not specify the type of narcotics involved.

Lawler was processed and taken to the Harrison County Adult Detention Center, where he is being held on a $400,000 bond. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Gulfport Police Department at 228-868-5959 or Mississippi Coast Crime Stoppers at 877-787-5898.
