MSU vet school trains area law enforcement K9s in medical care

STARKVILLE, Mississippi — Mississippi State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine hosted a LEO K9 Vet Care course for area law enforcement K9 teams, the Starkville Police Department said on Facebook.

The department said participants received classroom instruction and hands-on training covering common injuries and a variety of scenarios working dogs may encounter in the field. At the conclusion of the course, attendees were given custom medical kits to carry with their K9 partners.

The College of Veterinary Medicine at Mississippi State is known for veterinary education, clinical services and outreach to the community and professional partners. Training that focuses on immediate medical care can help extend the service life of law enforcement K9s and improve on-scene safety for handlers and dogs alike.
