Mississippians can report nonprofit misuse of taxpayer funds

Mississippians can report instances of fraud, waste or abuse of taxpayer funds spent by nonprofits by emailing nonprofitwaste@osa.ms.gov, the Office of the State Auditor said in a Facebook post.

The office also said residents can view every nonprofit that has received taxpayer funds and the amounts awarded by visiting the auditor’s website and consulting the nonprofit spending dashboard.

The Office of the State Auditor oversees audits and reviews of public spending in Mississippi and investigates potential misuse of state funds, officials said. Public disclosure of nonprofit spending is intended to promote transparency and allow taxpayers to see how public dollars are being allocated.

Nonprofits commonly receive taxpayer money through grants and contracts to deliver services ranging from social programs to public health initiatives, and oversight helps ensure those funds reach their intended purposes. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
