Mississippi opens 2026 spring wild turkey season March 14

JACKSON — The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks said the 2026 spring wild turkey season will open March 14 and run through May 3.

The department said the season extension follows state law that permits the season to continue through the weekend when the closing date falls on a Friday. Mississippi Code §49-7-31.2(c) specifies that when the open wild turkey season ends on a Friday, it extends until 30 minutes after sunset on the following Sunday.

Officials said the extension does not increase or otherwise affect the annual bag limit for hunters. The department directs hunters to its website for full details on season dates, regulations and bag limits, and for information on licensing and safety requirements.

The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks is responsible for managing the state’s wildlife resources and setting hunting seasons to balance recreation with conservation. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
