Mississippi emergency agency urges multiple alert methods ahead of March 15 severe weather

The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency said residents must have multiple ways to receive alerts as severe weather is likely this afternoon into the evening and overnight hours on March 15, 2026.

In a Facebook post, the agency warned, “DO NOT RELY ON OUTDOOR SIRENS OR SOCIAL MEDIA POSTS,” and told residents to continue to follow their local meteorologists for the latest updates on severe weather.

MEMA is the state agency responsible for coordinating disaster preparedness and response across Mississippi. Its reminders seek to reduce risk by encouraging people to use more than one notification method, especially during fast-moving storms.

Emergency management officials generally advise that outdoor sirens are intended primarily to alert people who are outside and should not be the only method of notification. Authorities and preparedness guides commonly recommend supplementing sirens with NOAA Weather Radio, wireless emergency alerts to mobile phones, and local TV or radio information.

We will provide more information as it becomes available.
