Mississippi agencies warn of incoming winter weather
The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency and the Mississippi Highway Patrol said in a social media post that winter weather is on the way and officials are monitoring conditions closely.
The agencies said freezing rain, sleet, snow and ice are expected, and urged residents to exercise caution. “If you have to drive, slow it down and stay alert,” the post said. It also advised people who do not need to travel to stay home and stay warm.
The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency, which coordinates the state’s disaster preparedness and response, and the Mississippi Highway Patrol, which enforces traffic laws and assists on state roadways, use advisories like this to help reduce crashes and keep residents informed.
Winter precipitation can create hazardous travel conditions, reduce visibility and cause slick roads, potentially leading to pileups, road closures and power disruptions. Motorists should allow extra travel time, check vehicle preparedness and follow directions from local authorities.
We will provide more information as it becomes available.
