Man charged after vehicle hits Hattiesburg school bus, flees scene
HATTIESBURG, Miss. — Officers with the Hattiesburg Police Department located a vehicle Wednesday that matched the description and damage of the car involved in a hit-and-run with a Hattiesburg Public School District bus the previous morning, the department said.
Police determined the vehicle was driven by Lewis Bullock, 47, of Hattiesburg. Bullock turned himself in Thursday and was charged with reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident, the department said. He was booked into the Forrest County Jail.
The Hattiesburg Police Department is the municipal agency responsible for law enforcement in the city. The Hattiesburg Public School District operates a fleet of buses that transport students to and from schools across the district.
Hit-and-run incidents involving school buses raise public safety concerns because buses carry children and other passengers. Authorities did not release additional details about possible injuries or the circumstances of the collision in their post. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
