Lee County deputies remove armed woman from Mooreville travel center
Lee County Sheriff Jim H. Johnson said in a Facebook post that deputies responded shortly after 12:07 a.m. Friday, Jan. 23, 2026, to a disturbance at the TA Travel Center at 590 Highway 371 in Mooreville, Mississippi, after an employee reported a distraught woman armed with a handgun inside the store.
The employee told deputies the woman made incoherent statements and caused clerks and customers to fear for their safety before exiting the store and remaining in her vehicle in the parking lot, the post said.
Deputies said the woman repeatedly refused to cooperate, made threats and had multiple additional weapons, including rifles and shotguns, within reach inside the vehicle. Sheriff Johnson said Crisis Intervention Team-trained deputies followed established protocol and maintained communication with the woman for several hours.
After prolonged efforts, deputies removed the woman from the vehicle and detained her so medical personnel could perform a mental health evaluation. She was transported by ambulance to North Mississippi Medical Center and remains under deputy escort, the post said. Charges are pending. The sheriff identified the arrested woman as Angela Reddick, 44, of North Carolina. Misdemeanor charges listed include disturbance of a business and disorderly conduct — failure to comply.
Crisis Intervention Team training is designed to help officers de-escalate situations involving mental health crises and reduce the risk of injury to the public and law enforcement. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
