Lee County deputies dedicate training run to fallen deputy
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post that the Class B-81 NMLETC Sheriff’s Challenge four-and-a-half-mile run that night was dedicated to Deputy Rick Haggard.
The post, credited to Sheriff Jim H. Johnson, said Haggard’s name was added to a Fallen Officer vest that was worn by Agent Emma Baptiste of the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office. Several officers took turns wearing the vest during the run, the post said.
Lee County Sheriff’s Office is the primary law enforcement agency for Lee County, Mississippi. The Mississippi Attorney General’s Office provides statewide law enforcement support in certain investigations and often works alongside local departments, and interagency participation in training and memorial events underscores that collaboration.
Memorial runs and items such as Fallen Officer vests are commonly used by police agencies to honor colleagues who have died in the line of duty and to foster solidarity among officers. Details about Deputy Haggard’s death or related circumstances were not provided in the post. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
