Jackson Police urges use of backup numbers if communications fail

The Jackson Police Department said on its Facebook page that members of the public should use the telephone numbers listed in the post if a call to JPD is not answered because of a communications system failure. The department added that callers may also dial 911 as an option.

The post directed residents to the numbers listed below the message on the department’s Facebook page; it did not provide the numbers within the text of the notice shared with local media. The department did not provide further details about the cause or scope of any communications issue.

The Jackson Police Department is the primary law enforcement agency serving the city of Jackson. Like other municipal police departments, it handles patrol duties, emergency response and investigations, and relies on communications systems to receive calls and dispatch officers.

Advisories about alternate contact methods are common when agencies experience technical problems because delays in reporting crimes or emergencies can affect response times. Officials often remind residents that 911 remains the preferred route for immediate emergencies.

We will provide more information as it becomes available.
