Jackson police respond to collision between tractor-trailer, Amtrak train

The Jackson Police Department said it responded to an incident involving a collision between a tractor-trailer and an Amtrak passenger train. No passengers were reportedly injured, but several crew members chose to undergo precautionary medical evaluations, the department said.

The department did not provide additional details about the location, time or cause of the collision in its initial statement. Authorities typically secure the scene, check for hazardous materials and coordinate with railroad personnel after such incidents, but the department has not released specifics about those actions here.

Amtrak operates the nation’s intercity passenger rail network, and collisions between road vehicles and trains can pose significant risks, often prompting inspections, safety reviews and potential service disruptions. Incidents at grade crossings are investigated to determine contributing factors and to help prevent future occurrences.

We will provide more information as it becomes available.
