Jackson Police Department updates impound vehicle pickup policy
The Jackson Police Department on Monday announced an updated policy for releasing impounded vehicles that takes effect March 1, 2026. Under the new rule, vehicle owners who pay to release a vehicle will have until 4 p.m. the next business day to retrieve it.
Vehicles not picked up by that deadline will incur additional storage fees beginning on the date of the last payment, the department said in a social media post. The post included two examples: paying on Wednesday at 1 p.m. requires pickup by 4 p.m. Thursday; paying on Friday at 3:30 p.m. requires pickup by 4 p.m. Monday.
Follow-up storage payments must be made through the JPD Records and Identification Unit; impound yard staff will not accept additional payments on site, the department said. Officials urged owners to plan ahead and arrange timely retrieval to avoid extra charges and said the change is intended to “serve our community with transparency and professionalism.” For questions, contact the JPD Records and Identification Unit during regular business hours.
The update affects motorists whose vehicles are impounded and clarifies payment and pickup responsibilities. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
