Jackson police chief cites reduction in violent crime

Chief Tyree Jones said in a recent Facebook reel that violent crimes have declined in the City of Jackson.

Jones, who leads the Jackson Police Department, spoke to residents in the video about changes in crime patterns without providing specific figures. Jackson is the capital and most populous city of Mississippi, and shifts in violent crime levels often draw local and statewide attention because of their impact on public safety, business activity and community confidence.

Efforts to reduce violent crime typically involve a mix of community policing, targeted enforcement, interagency collaboration and prevention programs, officials and public safety experts say. Independent verification of a decline normally comes from official crime statistics released by municipal or state authorities and from periodic law enforcement reports.

The police department and city officials may release additional details or supporting data in coming days. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
