Jackson deputy chief speaks at teen dating violence summit

Deputy Chief Tyrone Buckley spoke as a guest panelist at the 16th Annual Teen Dating Violence Awareness Summit, the Jackson Police Department said in a Facebook post.

The summit was hosted by Butterfly By Grace Defined By Faith and referenced I Corinthians 13:4-8 in promotional material, the post said. The event, now in its 16th year, brings together community leaders, service providers and young people to raise awareness about unhealthy and abusive relationships among teens.

Teen dating violence awareness events typically focus on prevention, recognizing signs of abuse and connecting victims with support and reporting options. Law enforcement participation can help communities understand legal options and resources for survivors, experts say.

Butterfly By Grace Defined By Faith organizes the annual summit to educate and support young people and families, according to the department post. The Jackson Police Department’s post underscored the message “Love should not hurt.”

We will provide more information as it becomes available.
