Jackson County opens weekend warming center at Pascagoula fair hall
Jackson County officials said a warming center will open at the Jackson County Fair Hall in Pascagoula, Mississippi, for the weekend beginning Friday, Jan. 30. The center will open at 5 p.m. Friday and remain open through 10 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 1, then reopen at 5 p.m. Sunday and close at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 2.
The fair hall is at 2902 Shortcut Road, behind the Pascagoula Civic Center, officials said in a Facebook post. The effort is coordinated by the Jackson County Office of Emergency Services, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department and municipal police departments, with support from community volunteers.
Residents needing transportation to the warming center should contact their local law enforcement: Ocean Springs at 228-875-2211; Gautier at 228-497-2486; Pascagoula at 228-762-2211; Moss Point at 228-475-1711; and unincorporated Jackson County via the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department at 228-769-3063, officials said.
Officials outlined rules to ensure safety and comfort: no pets; follow staff and security instructions; no weapons, alcohol or illegal substances; no smoking inside the facility. Guests are encouraged to bring essential personal items as space allows, including snacks, blankets or sleeping bags, and disruptive behavior may result in removal.
