Jackson County opens warming station in Pascagoula

The Jackson County Office of Emergency Services, in collaboration with Jackson County municipalities, is opening a warming station beginning tonight to provide a safe, warm place as temperatures fall across the county, the office said in a Facebook post.

The station will operate at the Jackson County Fair Hall, behind the Civic Center, at 2902 Shortcut Road in Pascagoula. Hours are 5 p.m. to 9 a.m., the post said.

Residents who need transportation to the warming station should contact their local law enforcement agencies: Ocean Springs, 228-875-2211; Gautier, 228-497-2486; Pascagoula, 228-762-2211; Moss Point, 228-475-1711; and unincorporated Jackson County, Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, 228-769-3063, the post said.

The office outlined rules to ensure safety and comfort: no pets; guests must follow staff and security instructions; no weapons, alcohol or illegal substances; no smoking inside the facility. Guests are encouraged to bring essential personal items as space allows, including snacks, blankets or sleeping bags. Disruptive behavior may result in removal from the facility, the post said.

Officials asked residents to share the information so those in need are aware of available resources. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
