Intermittent lane closures hit I-55 at exit 233 (Pope Road) in Yalobusha County
The Mississippi Department of Transportation is warning drivers of intermittent lane closures on Interstate 55 northbound and southbound at exit 233, Pope Road, in Yalobusha County from 9-10 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 1, while utility crews repair powerlines, MDOT said.
Traffic will be stopped in 15-minute intervals during the work, and law enforcement officers will be on scene to manage traffic, MDOT said. Motorists are urged to use caution and be on high alert for roadside workers when approaching the area.
MDOT maintains the state highway system and issues traffic advisories to protect workers and drivers during repairs and emergencies. Short, planned stoppages are commonly used when overhead powerlines require repairs to ensure crews can work safely and to prevent hazards to motorists.
Drivers should expect delays and consider alternate routes if possible. MDOT posted a news release with additional information on its website. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
